From Virtualization to AI Integration // Lamia Youseff // MLOps Podcast # 179

Does something ever make you stop and think about how far tech has come?

This week’s podcast with Lamia Youseff, executive director at Jazz Computing, did it for me.

She got interested in computers as a child when the family was looking to replace the typewriter. Then went on to help build Google Cloud.

From typewriters to the cloud, that’s quite a journey. We dive into that and her incredible experience in AI and ML over the last 25 years across a host of companies. She has worked at every company in the world FAANG. Facebook, Apple, Google, and Microsoft are some of her past employers.

And with that experience comes insight. It’s all just a little bit of history repeating itself as she sees parallels now with AI and ML to early cloud computing. Particularly a need for a unifying open-source project in the ML world, similar to Kubernetes.

She’s currently putting that experience to great use at Jazz Computing helping startups in generative AI, so if you’re in that field, you’ll definitely want to click the link below and listen.

Tecton Roundtable: Get Your ML Application Into Production—Learn How to Overcome Common Challenges

Tired of all the LLM talk?

Wanna go back to the real ML?

Got you covered.

Getting an ML application into production is more difficult than most teams expect—but with the right preparation, it can be done efficiently! Join us for this exclusive roundtable, where 4 machine learning experts from Tecton will discuss some of the most common challenges and best practices to avoid them.

With over 35 years of combined experience in MLOps at companies like AWS, Google, Lyft, and Uber, and 15 years of experience at Tecton spent helping customers like FanDuel, Plaid, and HelloFresh getting ML models into production, the presenters will share how factors like organizational structure, use cases, tech stack, and more, can create different types of bottlenecks. They’ll also share best practices and lessons learned throughout their careers on how to overcome these challenges.

Speakers:
  • Kevin Stumpf, CTO & Co-Founder, Tecton
  • Derek Salama, Product Manager, Tecton
  • Eddie Esquivel, Solutions Architect, Tecton
  • Isaac Cameron, Consulting Architect, Tecton

Risk and reward…

Long flights.

‘Exotic’ locations.

Sneaking passed security.

Making sure to secure the bag swag.

No, not a new action movie. Even better. The LLM Avalanche in San Francisco - an event so good it even fought off my jetlag.

Of course it would though, with such an amazing line up:
  • Beyang Liu, CTO, co-founder of Sourcegraph
  • Greg Diamos, Co-founder and CTO of Lamini
  • Ankit Mathur, Software Engineer at Databricks
  • David Kanter, Executive Director at MLCommons
  • Chip Huyen, Co-founder at Claypot AI
  • Harrison Chase, Co-Founder and CEO at LangChain
  • Ben Harvey, Founder & CEO of AI Squared
  • Aakanksha Chowdhery, Staff Research Scientist at Google Deepmind
  • Yaron Singer, CEO at Robust Intelligence and Professor of Computer Science at Harvard University

Names like that there’s always something to learn.

As an extra bonus, thanks to the generous donations from the Databricks team, we raised $21k for charity.

But, out of the 900+ people who attended it in person, I’m the only one generous enough to share my highlights in story form.

No judgment though I flunked 7th grade creative writing class. (….and have too much pride to ask chatgpt to write it for me)
